HOW IT SHOWS UP IN NC ROOFING
On NC architectural shingle roofs, the right answer is a manufacturer-matched ridge cap product (GAF Timbertex, Owens Corning ProEdge, CertainTeed Cedar Crest, etc.), not three-tab shingles cut into thirds and bent over the ridge — a once-common shortcut that fails fast in NC wind. Cut-up three-tab as ridge cap is a workmanship red flag and a warranty void on most premium shingle systems.
On a wind-damage claim, ridge cap is almost always lifted, cracked, or missing somewhere along the run — even when the field of the roof looks fine. Replacing only the missing pieces does not match. The supplement argument is usually for a full ridge-cap replacement on any slope where damage exists, with code citations on nailing pattern in high-wind zones.
