INSURANCE
A supplement is a written request to your insurance carrier to add line items, materials, or labor that the original adjuster’s estimate missed or under-scoped. Supplements are how a roofer fights back when the first estimate does not cover what the job actually requires.
HOW IT SHOWS UP IN NC ROOFING
In our experience, almost every initial Xactimate estimate from a carrier in NC misses something on a hail or wind claim — the most common are drip edge, ice-and-water shield, ridge cap, code-required deck nailing patterns, and like-kind matching for shingles no longer manufactured. A supplement is the formal way the contractor lays out what the scope actually requires, with photos, measurements, and code citations attached.
The supplement process is paperwork-heavy and the homeowner does not pay for it. We build it from the documentation we capture on the inspection, file it with the carrier, and follow it through to a written response. If a homeowner ever feels like a claim was “underpaid,” the answer is almost always a supplement — not a fight, just a properly-documented request for the rest of the job to be funded.
