PROCESS
A workmanship warranty is the contractor’s promise that if anything fails because of how the roof was installed — wrong nailing, missed flashings, leaks at penetrations — they will come back and fix it at no charge. Workmanship is separate from the manufacturer warranty on the materials.
HOW IT SHOWS UP IN NC ROOFING
Workmanship warranties in NC range from one year (the legal minimum on a contractor’s license) to lifetime. Most reputable residential roofers offer 5 to 10 years; a lifetime workmanship warranty is the ceiling and means the original installer is on the hook for any install-related failure for as long as you own the home. We offer lifetime workmanship on every full replacement.
The catch with workmanship warranties is that they are only as good as the company behind them. Storm-chaser crews offer aggressive warranties they have no intention of honoring — the company name is gone within a year of the storm. Ask any roofer how long they have been at the same business address, what their NC license number is, and what their COI looks like. The warranty is only worth what the underlying business is worth.
