INSURANCE CARRIER GUIDE · NC
State Farm homeowner policies are widespread across NC — Raleigh, Durham, Wake Forest, the Triangle suburbs, and further east into Wayne and Pitt counties. If you have a State Farm policy and storm damage, here is what we have learned from showing up on claims with their adjusters.
ABOUT STATE FARM IN NC
State Farm is the largest property-casualty insurer in the United States and one of the most common carriers we see on NC residential storm claims.

COMMON ISSUES WE SEE ON STATE FARM CLAIMS
These are operational observations — not criticism. Adjusters miss things on every carrier's claims. It is part of why we show up.
BEFORE THE STATE FARM ADJUSTER ARRIVES
HOW WE WORK WITH STATE FARM
When a homeowner calls us with a State Farm claim, we start with a free inspection before the adjuster ever arrives. We document every slope, every penetration, every piece of soft metal with photos and measurements. We pull NOAA storm data and tie the damage to the specific event. When the adjuster comes out, we are on the roof with them — items documented jointly on-site are far easier to keep in the scope than items submitted later as a supplement. After the initial estimate, we review every line item against our field documentation. Where the scope is short, we build a written supplement with photos, measurements, and code citations attached. We submit it to State Farm's claims office and follow it to a written response. The homeowner does not pay for any of that work.

FREQUENTLY ASKED · STATE FARM CLAIMS
It depends on the policy language. Many State Farm homeowner policies distinguish between cosmetic damage (surface appearance) and functional damage (structural integrity or waterproofing). NC does not have a codified cosmetic-exclusion statute the way some other states do, but specific policy endorsements can limit cosmetic coverage. Read the loss-settlement section of your policy, or send it to us — we will read it for you.
Most State Farm NC homeowner policies carry a standard flat deductible plus a separate wind/hail deductible. The wind/hail deductible may be a percentage of your dwelling coverage — check your declarations page. On a $350,000 home with a 1% wind/hail deductible, that is $3,500 out of pocket before State Farm pays anything.
Standard State Farm homeowner policies pay RCV on roofs below a certain age threshold. Older roofs may be converted to ACV settlement under an age-based endorsement. The exact age threshold and conversion terms are in your policy's loss-settlement section. We read those clauses on every claim we take — call us before you file so we can tell you what to expect.
No. NC law and your State Farm policy both give you the right to choose your own licensed contractor. State Farm has a contractor network you can use if you choose, but you are not required to. Many homeowners hire us specifically because we handle the documentation and supplement process — things that matter more than which list a contractor appears on.
In our experience, straightforward claims with a single inspection and no supplement disputes close in four to eight weeks from filing. Claims that require a supplement — which is most full-replacement jobs — can run longer depending on State Farm's regional office load. We track every open supplement and follow up in writing until we have a response.
Yes. State Farm adjusters use Xactimate to build their estimates, which is the same software most NC carriers use. Xactimate pricing is updated periodically, but regional pricing can vary. We build our scopes to match Xactimate line items so our supplement requests align with the format State Farm's adjusters are already working in.
