INSURANCE CARRIER GUIDE · NC
USAA is available only to military members, veterans, and their families. If you are in that group and have storm damage to your roof, here is what we know from working USAA claims in NC. Their claims process is generally well-organized, and in our experience their adjusters are thorough — which means having your documentation right matters as much here as anywhere else.
ABOUT USAA IN NC
USAA serves active-duty military, veterans, and their families. Their NC presence is strongest near Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty) and in the military-family communities across the state.

COMMON ISSUES WE SEE ON USAA CLAIMS
These are operational observations — not criticism. Adjusters miss things on every carrier's claims. It is part of why we show up.
BEFORE THE USAA ADJUSTER ARRIVES
HOW WE WORK WITH USAA
USAA claims run the same basic path as every other carrier: free inspection, full photo documentation, on-roof meeting with the adjuster. The difference with USAA is that they often front-load the process with virtual-inspection requests before scheduling an in-person adjuster — we help homeowners complete those submissions thoroughly so the initial assessment is accurate. After the Xactimate estimate, we review every line item and supplement where the scope is short. USAA's supplement review cycle has been generally responsive in our experience when documentation is complete.

FREQUENTLY ASKED · USAA CLAIMS
Standard USAA homeowner policies cover storm damage including hail to the roof. Settlement basis — RCV or ACV — and deductible amounts depend on your specific policy. USAA members should review their declarations page or call USAA directly. We are happy to read those terms alongside you.
Most USAA homeowner policies settle on an RCV basis for storm-damaged roofs. Some policies include guaranteed replacement cost language that extends beyond standard RCV. Read your loss-settlement section and bring it to your inspection — we will walk through it with you.
File online or by phone with USAA. They may request a virtual photo inspection before scheduling an in-person adjuster for larger claims. We recommend always requesting an in-person inspection — photos from the ground miss damage that is only visible on the roof. We meet USAA adjusters on-site at no charge.
No. USAA has a network of vetted contractors, but you are not required to use them. NC law and your policy both allow you to hire any licensed contractor. We work USAA claims directly through their claims process without you having to be a middleman.
In our experience, USAA claims are among the more organized we handle. Straightforward claims with no supplement disputes can close in three to six weeks. Claims requiring supplemental documentation add time — typically two to four additional weeks when documentation is complete at submission.
USAA's wind/hail deductible varies by policy and by county in NC. Some NC policies carry a percentage-based deductible on wind and hail losses; others use a flat dollar amount. Your declarations page is the source of truth — check the current version, not an older policy summary.
