CERTIFICATIONS
CertainTeed ShingleMaster (and the higher SELECT ShingleMaster tier) is CertainTeed’s contractor certification program. Certified contractors meet training and quality requirements and can offer the longer SureStart and SureStart Plus warranties on CertainTeed shingle systems.
HOW IT SHOWS UP IN NC ROOFING
CertainTeed is the third major shingle manufacturer most NC homeowners encounter, alongside GAF and Owens Corning. Their flagship architectural shingle, Landmark, is widely used. The ShingleMaster certification confirms that the contractor has run training credits on the CertainTeed system and is qualified to install it under warranty.
SELECT ShingleMaster is the higher tier and unlocks SureStart Plus — the longer non-prorated warranty with workmanship coverage. As with the GAF and Owens Corning programs, the certification matters less for marketing and more for system-warranty eligibility. Without a certified installer, the warranty defaults to the prorated base coverage on the materials only.
